Re: Pigeon falcon?

Hi Guliver,

I would not claim outright that the barbary is faster than the merlin. One could constrain the contest in any number of ways to favor one or the other falcon, but let me just say this-...

Re: Pigeon falcon?

Guliver- merlins can take homing pigeons as well. I do not personally fly my merlins at pigeons because I do not have the correct slips. I did release a group of six homing pigeons for her this year...

Re: Pigeon falcon?

The flight is set up where the merlin is unhooded several hundred yards from a flock of pigeons and either goes directly off the fist at them or takes a stand, then the falconer can go get the...

Re: Pigeon falcon?

Merlins are flown at flocks of pigeons successfully and the flights are stylish.

Re: Wild Peregrine Facts and Images

If the fish was a Mugilidae, which the manuscript indicates as a likely candidate, their characteristic behavior is to swim at the water's surface, where targeting inaccuracy, due to the different...

Re: Springer Spaniel Love

Great looking pup Forrest - she's a beauty! I love my English Springer. She has flused ducks, quail, dove under falcons and has also rooted out and flushed Sage Grouse on a road trip.

She has...

Re: Should lead shot be banned?

No, the game comission is certainly not an anti lead organization. Im through discussing it with you because obviously you are unwilling to actually read what the report is saying- which is that...

Re: Should lead shot be banned?

The report is peer reviewed, funded by a state game commission (wildlife management organization). The results show equal efficacy for lead and steel shot, for bird hunting, for over 5,000 shots on...

Re: Should lead shot be banned?

An interesting study recently showed that there is no difference in the efficacy of lead and steel shot. Extremely high numbers of samples and a true-blind study mean that the statistics are...

Re: Snipe Hawking in Ireland

Are there any monitoring efforts going on on that side of the pond for the highly pathogenic avian flu strains? It doesnt seem out of the question that it could end up that way. Ducks have arrived...

Re: Wild Peregrine Facts and Images

Hello Nawab,

The size of the phai hoop depends on the bait rather than the falcon. For a peregrine I use noose sizes of about 6 inches.

Re: Wild Peregrine Facts and Images

Hi Ignacio,

The peregrine permit expires today - extra-special bureaucracy makes the permitting process and dates for peregrines different than all other wild take permits. There are only two...

That's similar to my favorite gamebird recipe Nick. Mine is the same preparation of the fillets (although I don't usually tenderize), then moisten them in egg and lightly bread with a mix of powdered...
