As far as I know they are doing quite well in the wild. They are the least threatened of Africas large eagles.

Sounds about right. We use slightly larger chutes for the big falcons, but Ive not once had deployment issues provided the chute is attached correctly.

You have to adjust your tuning button to maximum needle bounce at all times obviously. You play with the volume button to get a needle bounce between "off the scale" and "no movement". Switch between...

If you get signal on far, it should be bouncing off the scale at medium and near.
Always stsrt with near. If you dont get needle bounce at 10, switch to medium, etc.

The bird could be plucking itself due to parasites or boredom. Post some good quality and close up photos as suggested.
