Re: Lewis Giles Thistlethwaite

Good for you for taking the bird on. I hope he comes around to full health and good condition again. Unfortunately there seem to be quite a few Goshawks kept like this due to the radical price drop...

Re: Spike Hardcore Hawkers Male Gos

Hi David, I feel very fortunate to have an experienced Bird in his Ninth season, as I doubt I could accommodate a first year Hawk as things are, still next season might mean bumper numbers of quarry...

Re: Spike Hardcore Hawkers Male Gos

Quarry numbers are down here as well.
Its a real struggle trying to get this inexperienced hawk the slips he deserves.
It wasn't so bad when I had my old female imprint as she had the experience...

Re: Rocrow

Hi Ryan

I have been considering getting one to get the Gos into shape at the beginning of the season and days we can't go hunting.
I have seen a couple for sale that have been used once. So they...

Re: My 50/50 male Gos

Thanks Chris.
Yes he is parent reared.
His moult was a strange one. He moulted all but 2 pairs of primary feathers but only 2 pairs of secondary were dropped. He was slow to start moulting and he...

Re: My 50/50 male Gos

Thanks. That's why I like flying a Goshawk.
Get them going well and they will take on just about anything we can fly here in the UK.
Hopefully I will get a crack at some pheasant soon.

My 50/50 male Gos

Here are a few pics of my Gos.
Last year, which was his first year, he hit a fence early on which nearly killed him, so he didn't get to fly much.
He has had a bit of a slow start this year but he...

Re: Goshawk found in blackpool

If he reports it to the IBR, the independent bird register, they should be able to help locate its owner.

Sorry Mike
I have got to go to work that day.
A shame as I would have gone to meet the members.
Perhaps another time.

Re: BFC

I will have a look at the website.
Its many a year since I've been on any kind of field meet, though I must admit I quite like hawking on my own, with the Gos and my Brittanys.
No taking turns at...

Re: BFC

I must admit I have never been a member of the BFC.
But from what I have been reading about it recently, it would not encourage me to join it.
Though I do feel in this day and age all falconers...

Re: 3/4 gos 1/4 blackspar

Hi Chris

He looks a cracker.
I'm just curious mate but can I ask is there much difference between him and a pure Goshawk?

That is massive for a Gos mate.
Hopefully he does her justice.

No problem Graham

I'm just getting my Gos going at the moment.
He had a bad fence strike at the beginning of last year [his first year] so he never got much flying.
Its pretty much like starting...

Re: Microwave defrost

I've never tried it with hawk food, but whenever I try it with meat for home use the edges of the meat seem to get cooked slightly.
I wouldn't recommend it.
