Default Falconry practitioners census UK

Hello,

I would like to know whether a falconry practitioners census exits in the UK? I would like to know the total number of falconers. Is there any statistic?

Thanks

I think it would depend of your definition of a Falconer.

Derek I don’t think DEFRA could possibly have any idea as they can only comment on registerable species.

That is a question that cannot be answered in the UK at this time, as previously stated DEFRA only have records of registerable species. The hawk board only know of affliated club members and many falconers are not members of any club.

It was my understanding that Defra monitor all aspect of falconry including how many people have birds of prey to achieve whatever policies are needed.

I can't see how they know how many people have birds for simple reason no one knows how many HH are there in this country be it in captivity or lost. Add Redtails to the equation or any other bird that doesn't need an A10 and you have no chance.

Even if you counted just the birds that need an A10 how acurate do you think the figure would be as how many people tell DEFRA that their bird has died and return the A10.
