You obviously haven't hunted wild Partridges out on big open ground Sean
I use a Leica Duovids binoculars but even then I can struggle to identify whether its covey or not way out on some of the stubble or crop fields I hunt on late season.
Thats why I have a Leica scope as back up, just to make sure.
I use it on a window mount tripod, for a half decent one will cost £15 off Ebay

Not shure about scopes but aldi's fruite and veg are second to none and cheap, the middle isle is hit and miss, the fishing gear is simply rubbish, the tools i.e spanners etc.. rubbish, i have baught spirit levels and other diy tools, i missed out on microscopes a few years back, i turned my nose up because of the price (must be rubbish syndrome) they got good feed back, always worth a look while her indoors is filling a trolley for 40 quid. do not buy any of the air tools for sale, unless you want to use them as a hammer or a door stop, electricals i have never tried, aldi is the only place round here whare the beans are cheaper than the carrier bags

I havent ,i hunt pretty tight lowland keepered ground we have a pretty good idea of whereabouts they'll be, albeit the partridge is only early in the season in one area which the dogs soon find , after that its pheasant (dogs again)or duck i envy those wide open stretches you hunt and could see the need in such a location and with that technique, i use military issue self focussing wide FOV with rangefinder they're a bit heavy but suit the purpose, ive several others including leica's but prefer the army ones ,but the dogs seldom fail to do their share and more
I use the spotting technique with the crow falcon
