Hav'nt you caught that rat yet! They're not that clever Rene..They're attracted to the chicken's as much as the feed,so just getting a rat proof feeder is'nt going to do the job!Better to use a gamefeeder with a rat size hole in it above the level of feed and stick a fen in it!I think what you're really cryin out for and could probably do with is a man about the house

My favorite rat catcher , named Molly 2year old and one careful owner, very efficient.

Seriously , good luck though.

Martin.

Possibly might decapitate a chicken that’s feeding next to another if that chicken moves off the plate and the unlucky chicken that’s head is in the feeder but not standing on the plate?
Alf.

Surely, if an intellectually challenged chicken can figure out how to get the food then a too brainy for its own good rat can too?
Grandpa's Feeders - YouTube

Has anyone out there invented a rat proof chicken feeder....that really works?

Apparently not (because I thought that too). The side plates stop a chicken accessing the food unless it's standing on the tread plate. A long neck duck might have a problem or two but not a chicken....apparently. No chicken has been known to decapitate itself whilst eating from this rat proof feeder. There's always a first.

I'll send you a picture of the rat so you can see if it proves inspirational.

Not even if they were grouped up hungry and one chicken went piggy back? Alf.

I've got this chicken that's neither a hen nor a rooster....a sort of fowl cross dresser. I'm sure it could work out a way to beat the machine.
