Default Do bird hunting vest make good replacements for falconry bags?

I am looking at a Gamehide hunting vest and really like the pockets. My question is, would this be a good vest/coat for falconry? What are the pros and cons?

I use a hunting vest and to be honest I have had no problems. The only problem is you tend to lose items in so many pockets so you have to keep to some sort of routine of where you put the different stuff

Never used a bag but my mates did and all but one now using a vest. The one using the bag says the vest makes him sweat. A problem we have here in southern spain

Odell

I have used both and I would never go back to a hawking bag now, hawking vest all the time.

Not sure what your hawking ground is like but for climbing fences and gates a vest is much better.

Depending how much game you catch loading all your quarry in the back instead of hanging on one shoulder, and as Shane mentioned more pockets and space.

I would be curious what a Gamehide vest looks like I am using an old Falconry originals one which is getting a bit worn now, unfortunately they are no longer trading and I will eventually need a replacement.

I hear a lot of guys saying Keith Wakefield dead dogs vests are good

Good luck which ever you choose

Thank you both. Here is the picture and a link. It is meant for duck hunting, but I see no reason why this would not make a good hawking vest. It has both front and rear loading game bags. It can be found on Amazon for $64.99. It would protect my arms from briars and it is orange for the added protection against those pesky deer hunters

Hi Odell

Thanks for posting the picture of the vest your talking about, I am not sure if you have Bass Pro shops in NC I have visited a few in Florida and the have some fantastic outdoor clothing in Green and Camo but then they go and spoil the with huge orange fluorescent patches on them.

$65 dollars is not going to break the bank to give one a try and I am sure people and deer hunters will see you coming lol

Both options would be good although the second option would be too warm for our climate

Also it is more like a clothes garment so may need washing more often than a vest worn over your usual hunting clothes

Just make sure you dont lose some food in one of the many pockets or it will stink

This is definitely something to consider. I still think there are more pros. Thanks for your input!
