Default Mentor - East Lothian

Hi all new to the iff just wondering if the members of the forum all have had mentors? If not how did you over come some of the issues you get by training a hawk I live in east lothian finding it difficult to find someone to help.cheers dougie

Dougie I suggest you join a club there are a few falconers in east lothian send me a pm with some more details i will pass them on

Thanks flash for the reply can't pm you till had a few more posts. Iam down near dunbar but will travel any local clubs or meetings? thanks again.

I would suggest contacting the scottish region of the bfc you will be able to do that through the web site

Bfc website seems to be down atm will give it afew days then try again.

hi again few months have past since my last post done lots of reading and tinternet research still on the lookout for a mentor, got intouch with the BFC but got no reply. anyway as the new season approaches anybody from the south east of scotland looking to help me out. thanks dougie

find out when and where they meet(it'll be on the web site)..

then go every month and turn up to as many field meets as you can,mean while read afew books and sick in..there no shortcuts..

spoon feeding dont happen in Falconry or this forum..

... unless they hit you with the spoon first! LOL It's a very close knit group of people who are successful in falconry. It helps keep the messers away and saves bird's lives. If the guy really wants to become a falconer, he'll go the distance and get over the hurdles. If people see he's making the effort, he'll get more and more help. It just doesn't pay to waste time encouraging someone with any sort of instant gratification complex... not that the poster has that particular affliction. Patience is not only a virtue in falconry, it's a requisite.
