Default Searching For a Mentor near wakefield?

Hello,

Myself and my partner would really like to own a bird of prey, to fly and possibly work in the future.

Before we think about taking the plunge and buying a bird, we want to work with someone with experience to learn the ins and outs of owning and caring for these magnificent Birds, the last thing we want to do s jump in blind.

We're total beginners, that share a love of birds of prey, owls especially.

We want to learn everything from housing, maintenance, feeding, handling, flying and everything else that comes with it and maybe even hunting with owls or falconry

Though we love owls, we are not certain what bird we would like to own, so would appreciate any help from falconers that don't own owls, as we may just decide that a hawk or falcon might be the right bird for us!

We're based in wakefield, but would travel to wakefield, huddersfield, barnsley & doncaster

Thank You To Anyone Who Responds

Look into joining the yorkshire falconry club, they meet over in horbury, walking distance for you

A common buzzard is your best bet for a first time hawk, IMO.

Obvoiusly housing, food supplier, etc et are the first priority, as well as permissio on land to fly. Personaly im dead against flying in public areas such as parks.

Im over in barnsley should you need to ask anything..

If you want to hunt I'd take land, quarry, time Etc into play before deciding a species.
