I am almost certain that I read a post by his son a few days back, how little we know what awaits us RIP and may his family take comfort in the knowledge he was a well respected man.

Great to see a shot of Mr. Nelson(even longer departed) along with Steve.
Thanks for sharing. American history for sure.

There's an intro from Toby (Steve's son? Skyout2) a couple of days old in case people have missed it - its an opportunity for people to express their sentiments directly.

Thank You for pointing that out. I had not seen it.

He had a old Volkswagen bus and we would load of a parcel of Gyrs and go fly them and then just load them back up while they were eating and roll back to his place-feathers floating everywhere! Good times!

He once told me when you grow up will only want to fly Gyrs or Gyr Hybrids as this is what Beebe had told him many years before about Gyrs. He was right as that is mostly what I fly these days.

I had lost touch with him for years, but out of the blue he called one day, as he was getting a Red Nape from Dennis Grisco and wanted to thank me for importing the founding birds. He is the one and only, over the years that ever acknowledge my hand in getting those birds into the breeding arena here in the US and wanted to personally thank me. A couple of years before he became badly ill he would call about every month and we would just chat about Breeding Falcons and anything related to Falconry. He told he felt his days were now very numbered.

He will be missed. R.I.P.

Brian,
Please notice that it's been pointed out in this thread that Steve's son Toby has introduced himself on the IFF. He is " Skyout2 ". I'm sure he would love to hear from you about his dad.

Dan

I never met Mr. Baptiste, heard of him for years. Had a 3/4 gyr he made that was loaned to me for a time, third hand, from two falconers who knew him personally, John Hall and Bob McCallum. "Pearl" surprised me the first time I flew her free by flying a haggard Prairie Falcon down and forcing it to hide in a sagebrush. She had not been flown for a number of years.

The world of falconry is small thanks to this mutual love that we share.
