You are right. However the chances of raptors developing a problem is sadly the chance that one has to take no matter what is being fed including chicks, which to my mind is more of a liability than pigeons. I refer to the latest studies on the so called "Peregrine virus". Pigeon flesh seems overall to be more acceptable to falcons at least, and they certainly seem to fly well on them.
I think if your sensible about ditching pigeons that are thin or have questionable organs and only feeding healthy looking ones, the odds are in your favour of having healthy falcons.

There is a pigeon guide close to me who gets guests in from the continent at harvest time pigeon shooting, they shoot thousands over the summer, one of the guides approached me to take some off their hands as they are just buried, i told him they would be no use to me shot with lead, he said they would switch to steel if i would take them off their hands as the shooters pay for the ammunition!
I would say if you are looking for a supply of woodies get in touch with a guide in your area and get him using steel for you.

Hello Johnny, i have been putting steel shot through my sidelock for over ten years, the pellets are cupped with a plaswad in the cartridge brand i buy, the only damage i have found is to the pigeons.

According to my gunsmith unless the barrels are proofed to take steel also the choke isn't correct then yes he is right.

Is there any danger to a falcon that is fed pigeons that have been feeding on dressed seed?

I have had conflicting reports?
